Sex in Marriage

Hey everybody! I hope you've all had a great week and are ready for another very sensitive topic, and one that I'm sure some of you will find rather controversial. That is, we will be talking about sex in marriage. Now to get a little more specific, I want to talk a little about the sexual differences between a man and a woman, the effects pre-marital sex can have on a marriage, and we'll talk briefly about the effects of pornography on marriage.     So first, what are the sexual differences between a man and a woman? Well rather than the obvious difference of men having a penis and a woman having a vagina, let's go a bit deeper than that. In Lauer & Lauer, Chapter 4 titled "Sexuality", it is explained that women will typically require more stimulation to reach orgasm than a man, but are also more likely to experience multiple orgasms to get to a "resolution" phase, which is pretty much when their bodies are done. Men, in contrast, typically ...

Adjusting to Life in a New Marriage

Hey everybody, thanks for tuning into my blog this week! We've got an interesting topic to discuss together today which is: how to adjust to a new marriage. If you're new to the blog, then you may not know that I have been married to nearly 3 years. And, as you may expect, there has been a lot of adjustments and struggles we've already had to navigate together. For the sake of time, however, I'll share the 3 most common issues that I have seen. These are: communication, differences in culture, and finances.     First of all, communication! Normally we save the most important point for last, but I've gotta start with it. Frankly, communication is key. If you are an individual who is able to talk to someone who disagrees with you completely without it resulting in raised voices or conflict, we would call that impressive! However, when this situation occurs in a marriage, its expected. When a husband and wife are unable to effectively navigate a disagreeme...

Marriage Prep

Have you ever looked at a couple and thought, "they are never going to work out." Or in contrast, have you ever thought, "wow they are going to be together forever!" Well, when we are trying to determine these things, we need to first ask what the main things that we can do to prepare for and best ensure a good marriage? For those of you who aren't married yet, I suggest that you firstly look to the three T's of relationships. These are: Togetherness; Talking; and Time.     First, let's take a look at "Togetherness". When a couple is dating, how often did they engage in a wholesome activity that caused them to learn more about each other? In today's society it has become very popular to "hang out", without a real plan. This isn't even actually "dating" since you aren't going out on a planned date. In fact, this is usually just an attempt to grow more comfortable with each other so that the relationship can b...

Gender Roles in the Home

Hey everybody, today we are going to be covering a rather sensitive topic. That is, we will be talking about gender roles in the home. As this is a controversial topic, I want to clarify now that everything I am going to be sharing is simply my own views with the aid of a document called  The Family: A Proclamation to the World. This document was written by modern day prophets through revelation, and we are going to use its help to answer a few questions such as: what are the typical gender roles in the family? Are these roles universal? How does this apply to single parent households?      Firstly, what are the typical gender roles in the family? Well, the roles we typically see with parents is that the husband will be the provider and protector of the family, while the mother is the nurturer and caregiver of the children. In the Family Proclamation, we are taught, " By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteo...

Social Classes & Family Relationships

What differences have you ever seen in families coming from different social classes? Has there been a common difference? My name is Kenneth Boss, and today we are going to be discussing if there are any common differences found in families of different social classes. To do this, we are going to look at 3 main topics: What defines a social class, what challenges are typical to each one, and which is most likely to create successful families.      First, what defines a social class? According to the Oxford Dictionary, "A division of society based on social and economic status." But we have to ask ourselves, what exactly do we think of when we think of what makes up a social class? Personally, I think of location of home, financial income, education, and personal achievement either in academics, sports, in business or all three. For an upper (or high-income) social class it is typical to picture very expensive homes and property, ve...

My Experience with Roles in the Household

What are the roles that we typically think of when we think of the family? In a traditional, or "nuclear" family which has a husband, wife, and children all in the home and committed to one another, one would typically think of the husband as the "provider", the mother as the "nurturer", and the children as helpful additions to the family, obedient and learning from their loving parents. We all know, however, that this is not always the case in many families around the world. There are mothers that are the financial providers of their families while the father stays at home and nurtures/raises the children. There are households where the children are not all supportive or obedient to their families and parents. In some households, it is the children who do what they want and control the parents. There are households where there is only one parent, forcing them to either try and manage the load of both providing and nurturing for their families or eve...

What Makes A Successful Family?

What comes to mind when you picture a "Successful Family"? Do you think of wealth? A long pedigree of Ivy League alumni? Or maybe you ultimately just think of your own family! My name is Ken Boss, and today I'd like to share some of my thoughts and research on what it means to be a "successful family".      A quick intro to myself, I am 22 years old and have been happily married to my amazing wife Sam for 3 years  now. We have a handsome 1 year old son who we are absolutely obsessed with! I am currently attending university while also slowly getting my own business started. As a young husband and father, I do my best to provide a good and happy life for my wife and son every day. It is, however, a joint effort between both my wife and me. So, as we strive together to provide a happy and successful life for each other and our son, as we all want for our families, how do we know what to measure or identify to ensure we are all doing a good...
